Municipio Roma XI
The Municipality of Rome XI, already "District XI", the name of the eleventh subdivision administrative capital of Rome, is situated in the south-east of the center. Its territory is divided in nine urban areas and its population is distributed in nine areas, for a total of 136,588 inhabitants in approximately 66,800 households.
Within the subdivision of roles that is in place in the Italian Public Administration, the Municipio Roma XI is in charge, among the others, of the maintenance of public buildings, roads and schools, also from an energy point of view. In this capacity, Roma XI is currently exploring the utilization of new sources of energy, which can be made available to public buildings. Among the other projects recently undertaken, the following can be summarized:
- Installation of photovoltaic plants on the roofs of primary schools in the territory of the Municipio;
- Adoption of green sources of energy for public buildings;
- Analysis and optimization of energy nodes for public buildings.
A project is being launched for the adoption of micro-CHP units, fuelled with biomasses, in order to make autonomous key buildings from the energy point of view. Biomasses are obtained by the treatment of waste.
ROMA XI has no previous experience in European projects and the participation in ODYSSEUS is seen as a huge opportunity for comparing local practices with the European trends and relevant Best Practices. ROMA XI is in a position of activating operative contacts with the main Administration of the City of Roma, which adheres to the EUROCITIES network and is participating to the Climate change and energy Working Group.
